    For flows in microfluidic devices, viscous effects become more significant while inertial effects become very weak. New design methods are required for relevant fluidic manipulations. In this talk, some microfluidic devices developed by us will be introduced, including a chaotic micromixer for mixing highviscosity liquids,a hybrid mixer design for wide viscosity ratio applications, and a passive microfluidic oscillator that converts otherwise steady laminar flow to high frequency oscillatory flow. Relevant design mechanisms, advantages and limitations, influencing factors and potential applications will also be discussed.
    Dr. Xia Huanming obtained PhD degree from National University of Singapore in 2007. Since then he has been working in Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), and is currently a research scientist in the Microfluidics Manufacturing Programme. His research interests mainly focus on microfluidics, particularly microfluidic mixer, microheat exchanger, droplet generator, and microfabrication techniques, and have published papers in top international journals, such as Lab on a chip,Journal of fluid mechanics etc.
