    The Launching Ceremony of the Research Center for Complementarities of Multi Energy Resources and Energy Conversion & the Academician Jin Hongguang’s Report Were Held at USTC

        On the morning of September 27, 2020, the launching ceremony of the Research Center for Complementarities of Multi Energy Resources and Energy Conversion and the Academician Jin Hongguang's report was held at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). The research center was established in the joint efforts of USTC and Institute of Engineering Thermophysics (IET).  Shu Gequn, Secretary of Party Committee of USTC, attended the ceremony organized by USTC Human Resources Department and the School of Engineering Science. Attendees also included the teachers and students of the Department of Thermal Science and Energy Engineering. The ceremony was presided over by Wu Heng'an, Executive Dean of the School of Engineering Science.

        

      Wu first announced the documents of Academician Jin as an adjunct professor in the Department of Thermal Science and Energy Engineering and the director of the Research Center for Complementarities of Multi Energy Resources and Energy Conversion. Then, he introduced the education and work background of Academician Jin, as well as his outstanding achievements in the fields of energy and power.

            At the ceremony, Shu Gequn awarded Academician Jin with the letter of appointment of part-time professor and director of the Research Center for Complementarities of Multi Energy Resources and Energy Conversion. After that, they announced the official establishment of the research center.

            In his speech, Secretary Shu first expressed his gratitude to Academician Jin for accepting the duty of part-time professor at the Department of Thermal Science and Energy Engineering and the director of the Research Center for Complementarities of Multi Energy Resources and Energy Conversion. Academician Jin would certainly play a decisive role in promoting the development of the subjects of power engineering and engineering thermophysics at USTC.

            

      Shu pointed out that it is necessary to take the establishment of the research center as an opportunity to further strengthen the cooperation between USTC and IET, which can further promote the cultivation of first-class innovative talents. Since a group of young teachers from USTC would soon participate in the work of the research center, Shu expressed his wishes that teachers would devote themselves to the research works concerning the major needs of the nation and the frontier sciences.  This way can continuously improve their scientific research capabilities and promote the development of the research center.

            In his speech, Academician Jin first congratulated the establishment of the Research Center for Complementarities of Multi Energy Resources and Energy Conversion. Then, he highlighted the historical links and long-term cooperation between USTC and IET. He also hoped that the establishment of the research center would further strengthen the combination of education and research training in USTC and promote the development of the engineering thermophysics.

            After the launching ceremony, a documentary for Academician Wu Zhonghua was broadcast. Academician Wu was the first director of the IET and the founder of the Department of Thermal Science and Energy Engineering of USTC. The documentary presented Academician Wu’s outstanding contributions in serving the country and promoting the development of science and technology, which played a crucial rule for the cultivation of talents.

            Afterwards, Academician Jin gave an academic report entitled Introduction to Total Energy System which comprehensively introduced the total energy system and the energy cascade utilization method from the viewpoint of development of energy power system. Besides, Academician Jin elaborated the realization and different applications of energy cascade utilization with specific examples. After the report, Academician Jin also held a symposium with teachers of the Department of Thermal Science and Energy Engineering, while discussing and exchanging views on the development direction of the research center.
